We love new sticks as much as anyone else and the Sports24seven team recently got the opportunity to put a range of our brands to the test on cold Saturday morning.

Armed with some of Eastern Gauteng’s top players we started our tour of brands with our friends Gryphon.

Gryphon can count a host of the finest players in the world that use the brand as their stick of choice including Gonzalo Peillat, Trent Mitton, Georgia Wilson, Simon Child and of course locally there is superstar Celia Evans in the Gryphon family!

The sticks we were given were the new Gryphon Tour Pro and the Gryphon Taboo Blue Steel Samurai. Starting out with the Gryphon Tour Pro 2018, another consistent delivery from Gryphon on their Tour range. Its low curve allows you to master the basics while assisting on your reverse and helping your aerial skills all at the same time. A smaller head allows for quick and easy dribbling. Gryphon’s stiffest lay-up provides great power whilst maintaining a plush, cushioned feel but instant touch. Constructed from the finest premium materials including high processed Carbon, combining lightweight, high stiffness and high chemical resistance Kevlar and rearranged Fiberglass. It’s this focus on quality materials and manufacturing process that has put Gryphon at the forefront of hockey sticks.

The Gryphon Taboo Blue Steel Samurai was a stick that caught your eye immediately with striking new graphics setting it apart from its predecessors immediately. It’s also apparent almost immediately when you pick up the stick that it’s a stick made for attacking players. The extra low bow and control groove immediately excite the drag flickers, while the you can happily expect your 3D skills to be highlighted even further.

Once we got into testing the power off the strike was evident immediately, with a slight challenge in keeping the ball down at times offering a great challenge to the experienced striker. The testing crew were excited about the stick, with Jared picking it as his stick of the day, something very difficult to argue with!

Both sticks are available on hockey24seven.co.za as well as more great Gryphon products, so check it out!
