Tonight the two best One Day teams will compete in the Momentum One Day Cup. The season may have been plagued by small crowds and pesky weather, but its also been filled with quality cricket and some humdinger matches. Tonight the shared defending champions the Nashua Cope Cobras will take on the Unlimited Titans in a game that will decide the 2013 South African One Day Champions. Jabu has a look at the key match-ups that could decide today’s final.
The form man from the Pretoria side Heino Kuhn has been the dominant force in the recent games to help catapult his side to the Momentum One Day Cup. After a slow start to the tournament, Kuhn has found form at the right time and his back-to-back centuries have created a bedrock for others to bat around. On the Cobra’s side its the methodical mastery of van Zyl that stands out for me. The 26 year old has passed 50 in 3 of his last 4 innings with one century in the mix. He may not have the same explosive strike rate, but with the ability of the Cape Cobra’s line-up will be well assisted by a solid platform that van Zyl will provide at number 3.
The big hitting ability of the captains is not lost on us. Although Behardien is slightly ahead in terms of batting and obviously form as well, Justin provides a greater ability to the bowling line-up. The ultimate test of these two International cricketers is going to be their ability to lead in some undoubtedly tough moments in the game.
This should me Marchant de Lange vs. Charl Langeveldt, but Marchant is with the Protea’s for the T20 game against Pakistan. So in Marchant’s place we pick Roelof. These two experienced men of their sides will have a big role to play. Roelof often is seen as the go to man for the Titans in the middle overs to break up partnerships, while Charl’s ability in a tight situation is one of the best in South African cricket.
The keepers are an interesting debate. Mangaliso has emerged as a credible keeper for the Titans this season as it has also allowed Heino Kuhn to focus on his batting which, as already stated, has been a successful decision for the Titans. Dane Vilas hasn’t had the best season with the bat averaging a mere 30. But Vilas has been the top performing keeper, leading the dismissals with 15. Mosehle is on 13 so it is an opportunity for both keepers to claim the most dismissals in the season.
Who are you supporting and who do you think will win the Momentum One Day Cup tonight?
