Take on the Jacobs Ladder

wsmc logoOver the past couple of months something special has happened at the home of cricket in South Africa. The iconic Wanderers Stadium, which held the 2003 World Cup Final and the 438 game, has welcomed a new tenant, the Wanderers Sports Medical Centre.

The WSMC offers the a sports medical doctor, homeopaths, physiotherapists, chiropractor, podiatrists,  biokinetictists amongst other specialists and affords the regular Joe the opportunity to train inside the Bullring. Get yourself fit in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world.

Bullring Stadium Fitness challenges the entire body in every plane of motion with versatile, scalable tools that anyone, anywhere can use to perform exercises that improve movement on the field or in life. The program uses the physical characteristics of the Bullring; the stairs, grass embankment and the hallowed playing field as your primary training tools along with modern training aids like resistance harnesses, training hurdles, speed cones and weighted balls while you hop, skip, jump, squat, lunge, twist and laugh your way to your ideal body.

I was fortunate enough to attend an opening fitness test at WSMC, I use the term fortunate very loosely, where we were tested on a range of the equipment. I couldn’t walk for a week and it was epic. The pièce de résistance of the the Centre is most definitely the Jacobs Ladder a piece of equipment famous for its appearance in Billions.

IMG_0312Inspired by the “star in a reasonably priced car” concept on Top Gear, the team have set up the Jacobs Ladder challenge and a leader board challenging all able to take on the pros and after a couple of weeks its Dominic Hendricks, the Lions batsmen, ahead of the likes of Proteas Hardus Viljoen and Stephen Cook. Do you have what it takes? Head on down to WSMC and take on the challenge.
