The Proteas Perfect 12

The Proteas secured their 12th consecutive victory in One Day International cricket for the second time in their history with an Andile Phehlukwayo inspired nail biter in New Zealand. The victory meant that the Worlds top ranked ODI side have now matched the second best run in the history of ODI cricket (The best is 21 by Australia). We thought it would be interesting to see some of the stats behind our 12 match streak.

3 – The number of players to have played in every one of the 12 games, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock.

0 – The number of times Imran Tahir has had to bat in the ten matches he has played in the streak.

19 – The number of players to have featured in the 12 games with Temba Bavuma having the least appearances (1) followed by Kyle Abbott and Aaron Phangiso (2).

15 – The number of 50’s scored by South Africa in this run, Quinton de Kock chipping in with 4 and JP Duminy with 3

10 – The number of centuries scored by South Africa during the streak including an almost national record of 185 for Faf du Plessis, 178 for Quinton de Kock and 154 for Hashim Amla

2 – The number of captains in the 12 matches.

0 – The number of five wicket hauls by South Africa in the streak. The best is four wickets.

1 – The number of times Andile Phehlukwayo has been dismissed in his four innings in ODI cricket (all in the streak), 2 of those innings were massive parts of winning the match.

103 – The number of wickets (Excluding run outs) taken by the South African bowlers in the 12 match streak.

17 – The wickets by Wayne Parnell, the most by any bowler in the 12 game streak. He has also only played 7 games.

4.58 – The economy of Imran Tahir, by far the best of the regular bowlers

4-16 – The best bowling figures by a South African in the 12 match run. It was by JP Duminy.
