Fresh from releasing the men’s squad to take on the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup last week, we are pleased to be able to release the Women’s squad that will head to Santiago in Chile from the 24 November to the 4 December. The ladies qualified after winning the African Qualifier in Namibia emerging triumphant over Zimbabwe, Namibia and Tanzania.

The ladies have been grouped together recently at the Greenfields Senior IPT where they were knocked out in the Quarter Final by the KZN Raiders in a tight tussle. SA U21 head coach Patrick Tshutshani says that he appreciates the sacrifices made by the players and their parents as well as their ongoing support in ensuring that the players could attend the various selection camps.

“The selection process has been insightful and challenging in ensuring that the players are excelling on a consistent basis,” Tshutshani added. “I am pleased that these players put their hands up throughout the selection phase. I have stated all along that selection was an ongoing process.”

“We will be seeking to play as many matches together as possible. There is a potential opportunity for the team to play against the Indian junior team, who are looking to come to South Africa in August.” Tshutshani says that the players are also set to benefit from the upcoming National Hockey League, which will take place in September.

Of the team included Taryn Glasby will be looked towards for goals as she was a big part of the qualifying process with 13 goals. These goals will be incredibly important as they take on the likes of Argentina, Australia, England, Germany and Netherlands. The team will be looking to emulate their performance in 2013 in Germany when they finished in 8th place.
