Clere Active is a brand I have enjoyed working with in the past and Bernard Parker is a player that I am a big of (Obviously extra because of Kaizer Chiefs), so when the opportunity to work with both came around we jumped at it. Clere Active have given some product and a Sportscene voucher for a prize valued at R850 to give away to one lucky reader. In order to win, read our interview with the elbow rubbing hitman and answer the question at the bottom of the page in the comments section. Here is our short little chat with Bernard.
Jabu: You have had an incredible career, but has there been one highlight of your career that sticks out for you?
Bernard: Definitely when I scored the winning goal in an international friendly against the reigning World and European Champions Spain at Soccer City.
Jabu: Having played in Serbia (Red Star), Holland (FC Twente), Greece (Panserraikos) and South Africa (Thanda Royal Zulu & Kaizer Chiefs), how do the leagues compare?
Bernard: Holland is definitely the most challenging and competitive league, they have lots of top quality players and teams.
Jabu: Having trialed with Leicester and now seeing them on the verge of the English Premier League title, how much do you wish it had worked out for you?
Bernard: I had a trial with them in 2010 and I wish I had made the trials. They seem to be flying through their amazing teamwork and it would have been special to be part of.
Jabu: Why do South African players seem to struggle to make it to the top leagues in Europe?
Bernard: Most SA players are only leaving for abroad in the middle stages of their careers. This has been detrimental to their careers rather than leaving earlier as their development is already behind!
Bernard: It must be having won the Eredivisie with Twente. We managed to finish one point ahead of Ajax after a great season, and sealed it with ten wins and a draw in our final 12 games.
Jabu: What is the pressure like having to play for Kaizer Chiefs, a team expected to win every game?
Bernard: The pressure has been the expectation to consistently perform by playing for such a big club like Chiefs. Its not easy but its an honour.
Jabu: What will Kaizer Chiefs response to the CBD be? Parker and ?
Bernard: ATP – (Abraw, Tshabalala, Parker)
Bernard: We can get better defensively and get more clinical in our finishing
Jabu: Who do you support in European football?
Bernard: Real Madrid
Jabu: Who, in your opinion, is the best footballer in the world besides Ronaldo and Messi?
Bernard: Luis Suarez
Jabu: How badly do you want to succeed in CAF competitions with Chiefs?
Bernard: So badly that I definitely want to be in the history books of the club career
Jabu: Where can our readers find out more about you?
Bernard: On my Facebook wall Here
