KFC doing Incredible things with Mini Cricket

KFC (4)For more than two decades mini cricket has been giving primary school children, from all walks of life, the opportunity to experience the game of cricket, learning basic skills from batting to bowling and fielding in an entertaining environment. It is this form of the game that is for many their first introduction to the greater game of cricket. In fact that is true of Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell and Mignon du Preez.

Since 2010, the lead sponsor of Mini-Cricket in South Africa has been KFC and what an outstanding job they have done. From growing the game through regional tournaments and mass inclusion, KFC started an exceptional initiative last year. That initiative saw the Mini-Cricket kids take on the Proteas in a country-wide tour of matches.

Taking it a step further KFC this year embarked on coaching sessions with the likes of Mfuneko Ngam and Neil Mckenzie with the teams playing games against the Franchise teams ahead of the Ram Slam games well preparing for another meeting with the Proteas ahead of the West Indies T20 series.

The result of this brainchild of KFC is making the heroes more accessible to the kids. When I was growing up I wanted to meet the Proteas so badly. I was always in shell shock if I saw one in real life. But an opportunity to interact with them, let alone play on the same field as them, was nothing more than a dream. KFC Mini Cricket kids now get to meet their heroes, play on iconic fields around the country and of course play alongside their heroes.

Another awesome thing has been the KFC Mini Cricket team fielding outside the boundary. Although it can get a bit boring, we saw at the Springboks vs. Proteas game what an amazing opportunity there was as Ryan Mclaren (I think) gave up his spot for a couple of balls to one of the Mini Cricket kids who arguably got the biggest cheer of the evening.

KFC we here at All Things Jabu salute you and thank you for your commitment to developing the game of cricket in our country and your commitment to getting kids active. Legends!
