Laureus World Sports Awards 2016

Laureus (2)The Laureus World Sports Awards for 2016 took place in a spectacular event in Berlin last night. The best of the World were honoured, with Tennis once again coming to the fore as Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were crowned as the best sports people on the planet for 2015.

Rugby also had its moment in the limelight as Dan Carter succeeded Schalk Burger for the World Comeback of the Year and the All Blacks finally won the elusive team of the year after their sixth nomination for the category.

To the delight of the Berlin audience, Germany’s Jan Frodeno, the first man to win both the Ironman World Championship and an Olympic triathlon gold medal, was presented with the Laureus Action Sports Award, while golfing sensation Jordan Spieth would have something to lift his spirits after the Masters meltdown, as he won the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award. In 2015 Jordan won two majors and finished in the top 5 of all four!
