My Five Favourite Olivier Giroud Arsenal Goals

Last week Thursday the fantastic Olivier Giroud scored his 100th Arsenal goal, becoming the 19th player in the clubs 131-year history to surpass the milestone. Since signing for Arsenal on the 26 June 2012, the Frenchman has maybe divided opinion but has constantly scored some outstanding and important goals for the Arsenal. So naturally, I chose my favourite five goals Giroud has scored for Arsenal.

5 – Arsenal 4-3 Leicester (11/08/2017)

In the 100 goals for Arsenal, Giroud has scored 31 headers. None have been more emphatic than the opening day of the current season when Giroud popped up in the 85th minute and fought off the attention of two defenders to rifle a bullet into the top corner. It underlined the ability of Giroud with the head and how undervalued he is.

4 – Arsenal 3-1 West Ham (15/04/2014)

Arsenal trailed early at home before Lukas Podolski delivered a thunderbolt to level the game, but it was Giroud who stole the headlines when surrounded by 3 defenders he controlled a long ball from Thomas Vermaelen with a sublime one touch before firing home with his “weak leg” before Arsenal wrapped it up with another Podolski goal.

3 – Liverpool 3-3 Arsenal (13/01/2016)

Although this game did not end convincingly for the Arsenal, it was a game in which they trailed 2-1. That’s when Giroud pulled a goal back but saved the best for last as just above the penalty spot he received a ball from Joel Campbell turned and fired home into the bottom corner. Liverpool would score a late leveler but Giroud once again showed class.

2 – Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal (16/08/2015)

With a cross having been delivered behind him, the beautiful Frenchman became airborne and retrieved the ball from behind him with an acrobatic scissor kick effort, which wrong-footed Alex McCarthy and nestled into the back of the net. It was one of his four goals against Crystal Palace, but not the best one.

1 – Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace (01/01/2017)

The best one was on New Years Day this year when a cross from Alexis Sanchez was hit slightly behind Giroud, the Frenchman swung his foot at the ball in a scorpion kick that rocketed into the net to the disbelief of all of those watching. It’s been nominated for the Puskas award and rightfully so. If nothing else it wins the S247 best Giroud goal!
