Ross Willis was appointed as coach of the Western Province Indoor Hockey Men in February this year with the challenge of trying to make the top 4 Indoor Hockey IPT. At just 26 years of age he was not expected to do too much, but rather smashed the statement that age is just a number.
Western Province emerged victorious from a tournament that they were highly unlikely to do, they were anything but favourites. They embraced the underdog tag with arms wide open and romped their way to their first title in 13 years and second in 27 years (Ignoring what I said in the podcast about it being first title).
In the chat with Derek and Jabu Ross takes us through his coaching approach, his mentality, the tactical decisions that led to the title and his involvement in Pro Series Indoor.
