ITs been almost a year since Garreth “Springs” Ewing was appointed as the SA NAtional Hockey Men’s coach and what a year it was. South Africa qualified for the Tokyo Olympic games through making the final at the FIH Hockey Series Final as well as winning the African Hockey Road to Tokyo Event in Stellenbosch.
Of course the year has not been without challenges as the burden of funding continues to offer obstacles to the program for the SA Hockey Men. Derek and Jabu sat down at Grind Coffee Shop in Melrose Arch with Springs to chat all things hockey. In his second interview with the Hockey 24 Seven team he offered us thoughts on the Olympic Games, the importance of an SA “A” structure, the upcoming Summer Series at Ashton College in Ballito and later series against Germany at Wits. Has he named his dog Nic Spooner yet?
Give it a listen, give it a like and remember its more than a game, its hockey.
