Field Hockey Stick Weights

  • For many years the rule of thumb has been forwards prefer light weight for mobility, while defenders use heavier sticks for long passes and strong tackles.
  • Of late, more players are choosing “L” and “XL” sticks.
  • Style is influenced by skills. For example a defenders who likes jab tackles would prefer a slightly lighter stick.

Your bow shape play a big role when choosing a stick. You need to match the shape according to your skill level. Most intermediate players would be looking to use a low whilst only players with exceptional aerial skills should brave the Extreme Low Bow shape.
