Padel is an incredible sport – even for beginners!
Padel Top Tips
Remain calm
This is a point we can’t stress enough. It may be easy to think you’ve lost the point if the ball has passed you, but it’s not true. Stay calm and focus on the ball that can bounce off the back glass. This gives you the opportunity to return the ball and get back into the court.
Learn to lob
Often a lob is the best shot in Padel. It keeps your opponents away from the net and can jam them into the corner – making the return difficult.
Aim your serve at the small glass section
When serving, aim to get the ball to bounce in and then immediately bounce up onto the glass. This will make for a tricky return from your opponent.
Put smashes and volleys away
When presented with an opportunity to smash or volley you don’t want to give your opponents the opportunity to get the ball off the back glass. Instead, if possible, try to smash or volley hard onto the ground so that the ball bounces up and leaves the court – winning you the point.
Attack the net with your partner
This is especially important on serve. If your partner moves to the net, so should you. This gives you both the best chance of winning the point.
Harder is not always better
Because the ball can come off the back glass, giving your opponents an opportunity to come forward and put the ball back into play, hitting hard is not always to your advantage. Sometimes playing softer and more steadily can help you find a groove.
Get the right gear for your game
Padel rackets come in many variations. Some are better suited for beginners and others, such as diamond-shaped padel rackets are better for advanced players.
