Netball is such a multi-versed game and one that is truly a team effort. However, in order to maximize that team’s abilities, it’s best to decide who is suited for which position.
Take a look below as Sports24seven analyses the several positions and the various abilities needed. You can then structure your team accordingly.
Goalkeeper
This is best position for someone who is alert and quick on their feet. A goalkeeper needs to intercept passes and have lighting reflexes to block the attacking teams’ moves.
Goal Defence
This is a position that works closely with the goalkeeper to block passes from the opposition, preventing goals from being scored. This person needs to be able to read the game well and have great anticipation of the opposing team’s next moves. GD has quite a lot of ground to cover too, so a decent amount of fitness is required for this position.
Wing Defence
This position serves two roles – to move the ball forward and to mark other WD’s on the opposing team. This position is ideal for someone confident and alert who is willing to dive in to prevent interception.
Centre
This person controls and manipulates the game from, you guessed it, the centre of the court. As this person will most likely receive the most passes this position is best suited to the fastest person on the team with quick hands to pass and intercept as quickly as possible.
Wing Attack
This position needs to work well with the Centre position in order to quickly receive passes. Speed is a must for this position. Fast feet and fast hands are essential. If you are quick and agile – this may be the position for you.
Goal Attack
GA works closely with WA to move the ball as close as possible to Goal Shooter. Quick hands and quick thinking are required for this position to put the GS in the best possible position to score.
Goal Shooter
The name says it all, this is the position ideal for the person with great aim. This person should be able to score goals from a variety of angles within the circle. A steady hand and ice in the veins is a must for this position. Are you good under pressure? This is the position for you.
Once you’ve decided on your team and the best positions for each member – you can kit them out with netball bibs, outfits, and great shoes.
